What does #monastery of Observant Franciscan Frairs in Rawa Ruska and #Marine Church in Gdańsk have in common? The solution to this puzzle may be a bit surprising ...
The monastery was founded in the 18th century. It was the town's pride, which then was located in the Lviv Voivodeship in the Second Polish Republic. After the war, the monastery could be found, along with the greater part of the Eastern Borderlands, in the Soviet #Ukrain. A that time it became a kolkhoz's warehouse; over time it fell into ruin.
However, its equipment was evacuated to Poland by the Franciscans. Part arrived to our church. A fragment of the monastery chronicle provides the evidence for it: "Provincial superior Mieczysław Kierzkowski handed over the Stations of the Cross from the monastery church in Rawa Ruska [to the Marine Church]" (note on 1959)
These Stations of the Cross were part of the temporary furnishings of the church (in the years 1949–1970). The war had completely destroyed its interior, so it had to be decorated anew.
In the 1960s, our predecessors decided to order a work by Wiktor Ostrzołek (stained glass windows, the Stations of the Cross) and to comprehensively decorate the temple. Then the temporary decor had been superseded by a new one, existing to this day.
